Looking for Pilates? Try the modern approach – Stott Pilates at Body Positive Works. Strengthen your deep abdominal muscles, build and tone your muscles, all while improving your posture and flexibility and increasing your body awareness.
Offering private Stott Pilates sessions in our fully equipped Pilates studio: Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, and Arc Barrel.
Joseph Pilates originally developed Pilates as an exercise program to rehabilitate injured soldiers. He brought it to the United States in 1923, where he opened a NYC studio to train and rehabilitate injured dancers. Today, Pilates is available to everyone as a way to strengthen and align the body from the core outward.
At Body Positive Works, we offer private training in our fully equipped Stott Pilates studio. A contemporary approach to the original method, Stott Pilates complies with all of the current exercise science and research. Using spring tension instead of weight stacks and working with the breath to connect with the core, Pilates equipment training emphasizes slow controlled, repetitive movement. With an emphasis on quality of movement over quantity, Pilates balances the body and creates uniform muscle use, development, and flexibility.
◐ With an emphasis on correct form, Pilates allows for the safe movement flowing from the core of the body to stretch and strengthen muscles, as well as improve range of motion in the joints
◓ Focusing on core, torso, and shoulder girdle stability, Pilates improves postural alignment, mobilizes the spine, and creates better body awareness for everyday living
We offer one-on-one sessions in a quiet and private space. Programming is designed for your unique body and tailored to your individual needs with an emphasis on form and alignment.
Try a complimentary 30-minute demo to experience the various pieces of equipment. Receive feedback and a training plan from our instructor before making any important training decisions.
Whether you are just getting started, de-conditioned, or just looking to try something new, Pilates is accessible to all ages – from young adults to the middle-aged and the elderly.
Looking for post-rehabilitation of a current or past injury or maybe newly diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, we can help develop a plan.
All sessions are by appointment only.

A fully certified Stott Pilates instructor for the past 17 years, Joy received her training at Pilates on Fifth in NYC. She teaches Pilates Mat and group Reformer classes, as well as does private equipment training with her clients. Starting her fitness career as a group fitness instructor in 1997, she has continued her studies to include Total Barre and TRX Suspension Training, as well as Pilates for Injuries and Special Populations. As her clients have gotten older, she realized a need for more in-depth training with osteoporosis. Working with Dr. Meredith Stephens of Anatomy Trains, she completed Understanding and Working with Osteoporosis. With a deep respect for the body and an emphasis on form and alignment, she provides her clients with tools to increase range of motion, flexibility, strength, and spinal mobility. Her ultimate goal is for her clients to take that knowledge and body awareness and utilize it in their everyday activities.
