At Body Positive Works, we believe that nutrition should be health-centered and weight-neutral.

That’s why we take an integrative approach that fosters self-love, self-care, and self-acceptance.

Nutrition sessions offer education around the medical and nutritional side effects of binging, purging, and restricting; development of a balanced relationship with food and body; support in stabilizing eating patterns; and once stabilized, help with getting in touch with hunger and fullness cues.

Our food protocols are focused on overall well-being, rather than trying to achieve a certain weight or culturally defined standard of beauty.

Nutrition support includes conversations around body acceptance, allowing you to explore and heal your relationship with food and your body so that you can experience a sense of confidence and freedom and develop a better relationship with both.

Private Diet, Nutrition and Health Coaching

We offer individual private nutrition consultations. In these sessions, our dietitians, nutritionists, and health coaches develop a customized program based on the individual needs of the client. We also offer group support; please see the list of support groups below.

The initial consultation lasts 75 minutes. In this session, we review the individual’s relationship to food, weight, and body image. We talk about previous diets, current daily schedules, and any ongoing challenges. From here, we develop a hierarchy of fear/guilt/averse foods and set intentions for the individual to implement between sessions.

Follow-up sessions last 30 or 45 minutes. Here, we review the individual’s food intake between sessions, discuss the experience of changing what is perhaps deep-seated behavior and attitudes, and set a program for the next time period.

  • Do you judge what you eat, do you judge yourself?

  • Do these thoughts about food and your body take you out of the present moment, impact your mood, leave you feeling upset with yourself, or lead to negative behaviors or habits to manage the pain?
  • Do you determine your self-worth by the number on the scale?

If the answer is “YES” to any of these questions, this group is for you.

“Our mantra is No Judgment”

Why Choose BoPo?

Support with Overeating, Emotional Eating, Binging, and Food Restricting

We are proud to work with top dietitians, nutritionists, and health coaches in Bergen County. Our principle is to provide nutrition services that empower you with practical solutions.

We understand that personal wellness is a journey, not a destination, and that one size does not fit all. Our dieticians, nutritionists, and health coaches see nutrition as nourishment on every level, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. We see it as encompassing the relationships with family, friends, nature, the wider world, and most importantly, the relationship with ourselves.

Body Positive Works offers both individualized mind-body nutrition counseling, as well as small group programs and workshops to give you compassionate support, helping you learn to take care of your whole self and guiding you through the self-discovery process that brings about real and lasting change.

Our mantra is “No Judgment.”

We have no judgment and no generalizations. Every single person who walks through our door is unique and different, so each person’s food choices should be unique and different too.

At Body Positive Works, we seek to listen with curiosity, not judgment. Your symptoms, whether physical and/or behavioral, are simply messengers for underlying imbalances. Equally important, we will help you identify and address the mind and heart issues behind your relationship with food in order to help you recover from emotional eating, overeating, binging, and/or food restricting.

Eating Disorders and Nutrition FAQ

Nutrition is the intake of food in relation to your dietary needs. Good nutrition – defined as a well-balanced diet and regular exercise – is a cornerstone of optimal health.

It improves the quality and length of your life, as well as boosts energy levels and brain function. For example, a diet low in cholesterol, sodium, and fat (or that includes only “good fats,” such as avocado and coconut oil), can lower your risk of heart disease, while a diet rich in calcium can build bone strength.

Poor nutrition, on the other hand, can leave you vulnerable to illness, impair physical and mental development, and lower productivity.

Our dieticians, nutritionists, and health coaches help guide you to establish ways of eating that are best suited for YOUR body, mind, and spirit.

Disordered eating can be shown through alterations in weight, fluctuations in mood, interruptions in normal eating patterns, changes in exercise regimens, and a fixation on nutritional content or body image.

Nutrition support can not only help you to reach your wellness goals, but can serve as an educational tool to develop and maintain a balanced and healthy relationship with food and your body.

You do not need to bring anything with you. You do not need to prepare. All bodies are welcome and we encourage anyone who wants to work towards finding their way back to self to to join us at BoPo, we are here to guide you.
