“Learn techniques to quiet mental chatter, become present with yourself”

Move from feelings of stress and anxiety into experiences of calm and relaxation

A practice that is thousands of years old, breathwork is the act of bringing conscious awareness to the breath.

While there are a plethora of different patterns and variations, all styles of breathwork serve as potent tools to enhance emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual landscapes.

Breathwork sessions at Body Positive Works can be deeply healing and therapeutic, as they offer a container to be fully present with your emotions, your experience, and yourself as they are in the moment.

It is a practice that moves you out of the thinking mind, the space bound by attachments, created stories, and limiting beliefs, and into the body, or more specifically, the heart. And it is in this space that you, outside of the analytical mind, and thus, outside of what keeps you stuck, can let go of addictions, harmful habits, and negative thought patterns and rewire the brain to encompass ways of thinking that serve you.

By breathing deeply and slowly and with conscious awareness, you can shift from the sympathetic nervous system, your fight or flight response, into the parasympathetic nervous system, your rest and digest mode.

Or put more simply, you can move from feelings of stress and anxiety into experiences of calm and relaxation. It is here that you tune back into your innate wisdom, your whole self, and the body’s inherent capacity to heal itself.

Breathwork FAQ

When we are stressed, we tend to breathe shallowly, activating the sympathetic nervous system. Breathing in this way, the air sits at the top third of our lungs, rather than being received by the lower areas that supply oxygen and nutrients to the body. If the brain fails to receive enough oxygen, we begin to experience feelings of anxiety and stress.

However, when we alter our breath patterns and consciously breathe more deeply, we trigger the vagus nerve, slowing down our heart rate and breathing rhythm. The vagus nerve, the longest cranial nerve in the body, is the key driver of the parasympathetic nervous system, and ultimately, our feelings of calm and relaxation.

Sessions involve a self-check-in and intention setting followed by an active breathwork practice and a meditative integration to receive the experience.

You do not need to bring anything with you. You do not need to prepare. All bodies are welcome and we encourage anyone who wants to work towards finding their way back to self to to join us at BoPo, we are here to guide you.
