More About Art Therapy

Art Therapy: Self-Expression, Not Perfection

Art therapy is not about creating flawless art. It’s a therapeutic process that encourages exploration and expression, prioritizing self-discovery and growth rather than technical skill.

Art Therapy sessions at Body Positive Works are collaborative experiences tailored to each individual’s needs. Some sessions focus on spontaneous art-making, while others incorporate a structured approach guided by your specific therapeutic goals.

  • Enhance traditional talk therapy by accessing deeper emotions.
  • Offer a creative approach to managing life’s challenges, from anxiety and depression to grief and trauma.
  • Lower cortisol levels (stress hormone) and increase serotonin (the “feel-good” hormone) through creative engagement.
  • Help you explore and release overwhelming emotions related to negative body image, grief, or trauma.

A non-judgmental environment where you can tap into your creative process and explore a wide range of emotions, without pressure or self-criticism.

Scientific studies suggest that engaging in art-making can improve your mood, increase self-awareness, and cultivate a sense of calm and well-being.

Art Therapy can be an invaluable alternative to traditional therapy for those who struggle to communicate their feelings verbally.
