What is EFT?
EFT or Tapping can reprogram the neural pathways that cause upsetting feelings and bodily sensations and encourage the growth of new, more empowering beliefs.
Emotional Freedom Techniques, EFT or “tapping,” is a stress-reduction technique that combines modern psychology with the ancient eastern practice of acupressure. It involves gently tapping on acupressure points on the face and body while focusing on thoughts and emotions
How EFT Helps Manage Emotions and Thoughts
EFT, a self-induced tool that can regulate and calm the nervous system in just 3-5 minutes, involves gently tapping on acupressure points on the face and body while using cognitive statements and focusing on thoughts, emotions, or sensations.
A quick way to shift the fight-or-flight response, EFT sessions support a reduction in stress around triggering events, people, or things.
Research also suggests that an hour of EFT lowers cortisol, our stress hormone, by 43%! Additionally, the practice helps us to process highly traumatic events in an incredibly gentle way, as well as integrate trauma so that it no longer runs the show.
EFT frees us from phobias, rewires the brain, and reduces the impact of memories and incidents that generate emotional distress.
Through the incorporation of cognitive statements, the brain’s natural neuroplasticity is activated, allowing for the rewiring of the brain, the creation of cognitive shifts and new ways of thinking and seeing, and the release of limiting beliefs and blocks.

◐ Overcoming performance problems or phobias and releasing procrastination and increasing productivity
◑ Reducing stress or anxiety by releasing limiting and inherited beliefs and the root causes of anxious thinking, calming the nervous system, changing the way that you relate to and view your anxiety, letting go of the shame and judgment that surrounds your anxiety, gaining confidence, and lessening overwhelm
◐ Helping to release trauma from the body and regain power after a traumatic event, clearing blocks from childhood trauma, and reducing the impact of memories or incidents that trigger emotional distress
◓ Shifting away from negative body image by releasing feelings of shame, growing the capacity for acceptance, learning to see the body in a new way, and letting go of societal pressures
◐ Supporting addictions, eating disorders, and disordered eating by increasing compassion for self, mapping the anxiety underneath the craving, understanding triggers and the emotional associations with cravings, and releasing momentary cravings

Learn to live in the present moment!
An experience that combines the best of western traditional therapy (exposure and cognitive) with eastern practice (acupressure or acupuncture without the needles), EFT creates lasting change by learning from both the wisdom of the mind and the body.
At Body Positive Works, we create treatments around the individual, listening to your needs and developing sessions that empower and celebrate you. EFT treatments are no exception; your EFT Practitioner will create an individualized treatment based entirely on your needs.
An EFT Session can be used individually or in conjunction with other modalities, such as our meditation and breathwork.
Each modality supports a reconnection of body, mind, and spirit. This, in turn, encourages a positive change in perspective about your body and your life, empowering you to not only recognize your strengths and purpose but to live fully in the present moment as well.
Used in conjunction with BoPo psychotherapy, EFT can help to reduce stress and anxiety and further benefit the therapeutic process.
You will receive instruction on how to take these practices home with you and use them in your everyday life.
Emotional Freedom Technique FAQ
Emotional Freedom Techniques, EFT or “tapping,” is a stress-reduction technique that combines elements of Cognitive Therapy and Exposure Therapy from modern psychology with the ancient eastern practice of acupressure. Sometimes called “Acupuncture without the needles” or “Emotional acupuncture,” Tapping involves gently tapping on acupressure points on the face and body while using cognitive statements and focusing on thoughts, emotions, or sensations.
Tapping sends calming signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. It moves you from the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze) into the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest). It also rewires the brain and reduces the impact of memories or incidents that trigger emotional distress through the use of cognitive statements, which activate the brain’s neuroplasticity.
EFT Sessions are appropriate for everyone – from kids and teens to the middle-aged and the elderly. Some of the ways we can help involve prenatal and postnatal women, ADD, addiction recovery, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, grief and loss, athletes, menopause, negative body image, and addiction.
Some of the following can be experienced – all of which are common and not harmful: tingling or tightness in the body, a shift in body temperature, tiredness, a sense of inner calm, and the surfacing of emotions.
