“A life-changing and effective way to enhance your mental wellbeing.”

Do you want to ground and deepen your sense of self?

Within the practice of yoga, we address not only the physical body, but also the energetic, emotional, and spiritual body.

By coming to yoga, we grow our understanding of the interdependency of these different bodies that make up the self, and how each informs the other.

Yoga gives us tools that we can put into practice to deepen our experience as unique individuals.

The beauty of yoga is that it has the ability to address individual needs that vary from person to person — no two yoga practices look the same.

A deeply healing experience for anyone of any physical ability, the yoga practice supports joint, muscle, and bone health; a connection to the breath; a sense of calm; feelings of groundedness; and an ability to observe. By coming to yoga, we are nurturing the whole self.

Amanda Dhi

Director of Yoga Services

A little bit about me…I have been practicing yoga for over twenty years. What I practice and how I practice, has evolved many times over.

More than anything, yoga has taught me to be adaptable to change. I am an RYT-500, having taken both of my 200 and 300hr teacher trainings at Yoga Synthesis. I have also trained and specialize in Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. My classes are based on the philosophy that the journey never ends, and that every day presents an opportunity for positive growth and change.

I emphasize adaptability, accessibility, and acknowledge the individualistic experience of growing a yoga practice. Currently, I am studying to become certified in Yoga Therapy.

My other life calling is being an End of Life Doula (EOL). Being a doula is a great honor, and I am forever humbled and grateful for the many lessons this role continues to teach me. I use my training and experience as a doula to teach Yoga and Meditation for Grief and Yoga and Meditation in Palliative Care.

I believe that we are all put on this earth to help one another, to learn from each other, and to lift each other up. We all have good days and bad days. Our experiences are as unique as we are. Yoga has taught me that there is space for it all, for everyone. That even as we journey as individuals, we always journey together.

Sydney Struble

Sydney is a breathwork guide, a 500-hour yoga instructor, and perpetual student who purposefully explores the interplay between mind, body, and spirit.

She continually studies the scientific undercurrent of spirituality, how our minds and behaviors are shaped by both awareness and experience, and the ways in which holistic practices can support and enhance emotional, energetic, physical, and psychological well-being.

Sydney feels privileged to be able to hold space for others to become embodied, connect back to their true nature, nurture their nervous systems, and cultivate individual and collective healing. As a breathwork facilitator and yoga teacher, she creates a container to tune back into authenticity, childlike innocence, curiosity, intuitive wisdom, and Self.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Franklin & Marshall College, PA and earned her Master of Arts degree in Psychology and Education with a concentration in Spirituality and Mind-Body Practice at Columbia University, NYC.

Benefits of Yoga Classes with Body Positive Works

Although a seemingly physical practice, yoga isn’t just about the body — it’s also an effective way to enhance your mental well-being.

Yoga can help you not only increase mobility, flexibility, circulation, bone density, and strength, but also relieve stress, depression, and pain; improve breathing; and boost brain function and focus.

In addition to these benefits, here are some ways that yoga can enhance your overall well-being and happiness on a daily basis.

Reducing stress and anxiety

When you practice yoga, not only does the body release endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects, but it can help to increase feelings of self-esteem and self-acceptance.

With regular practice, you may find that you can better navigate and cope with stressful situations both on and off the mat, as well as feel more confident in your abilities and who you are.

Additionally, yoga can help those struggling with depression or other mental illnesses by providing a space in which individuals can feel safe to heal and express themselves.

Increasing energy levels and mental calmness

One great benefit of yoga is that it can help increase your energy levels, which can be especially beneficial if you find yourself feeling sluggish or run down.

Not only can yoga offer you a mental boost, but it can also help improve your circulation, get your blood flowing, and relieve stress from tight muscles.

Yoga’s focus on breathing also helps to calm the mind and move toward inner peace, supporting greater physical health. If you’re looking for simple ways to keep your mind focused during a stressful day, try performing five minutes of yoga in the morning before work or late at night before bedtime.

Living with more awareness

By living with more awareness, you are able to be more present in each and every moment, helping to increase focus, concentration, and self-awareness. As a result, you may find that your ability to manage stress and anxiety comes with more ease.

Additionally, living with more awareness can also help to boost your mood and overall sense of well-being, increasing feelings of happiness and reducing feelings of stress and worry.

Improving posture and core strength

Practicing yoga helps to improve your posture and build core strength. Good posture can alleviate pain in the lower back, shoulders, and neck, as well as aid in deepening your breathing.

Core strength is important for balance, stability, and helping to prevent injuries. Many people practice yoga as a way to fight chronic pain and lower their blood pressure.

Healing your body from within

Yoga is not only a physical practice but a mental and emotional one as well. When you focus on your breath and connect with your body, you can let go of stress and tension.

This mind-body connection is what allows yoga to be so effective in healing the body from within. As this practice helps to induce relaxation, you can find balance and peace that may have been missing for some time. For example, when we feel anxious or stressed out, our heart rate increases, which can cause high blood pressure and put us at an increased risk for heart disease.

However, when we do certain postures, like downward dog or deep breathing exercises, we can lower our heart rate, reducing the risk of those negative outcomes.

Our sessions are designed to support your experience with yoga both on and off the mat. Modifications, props, and a deeply supportive, positive environment allow each individual to customize their own experience. Postural, breath, and meditative practices are explored with a mindful and supportive approach.

We take the time to build the practice, to fully absorb all of the many benefits that yoga has to offer. Yoga teaches us to be in the present so that we can make room for positive growth and change.

All bodies are welcomed for New Jersey Yoga at Body Positive Works.

“Boost your mood and overall sense of well-being. Increase feelings of happiness whilst reducing stress and worry.”

Finding Peace and Serenity: Yoga Near Me

In today’s fast-paced world, it can be difficult to find a moment of peace and quiet. That’s where yoga comes in. This ancient practice has been proven to reduce stress, increase flexibility, and improve overall well-being. If you’re looking to find some inner peace and serenity, here are some tips for finding the perfect yoga studio near you.

Do Your Research

The first step in finding the perfect yoga studio near you is to do some research. Start by searching for “yoga near me” or “tantra yoga near me” or “restorative yoga near me” on your preferred search engine. This will bring up a list of studios in your area. Take some time to read reviews and visit their websites to get a feel for their classes and atmosphere.

Ask for Recommendations

If you have friends or family members who practice yoga, ask them for recommendations. They may have a favorite studio or instructor that they can recommend. You can also ask for recommendations on social media or in local community groups. This can be a great way to find hidden gems in your area.

Try Out Different Classes

Most yoga studios offer a variety of classes, from beginner to advanced, and from restorative to power yoga. It’s important to try out different classes to find the style that works best for you. Many studios offer a discounted rate for first-time students, so take advantage of this and try out a few different classes before committing to a membership.

Consider Location and Schedule

When looking for a yoga studio near you, it’s important to consider the location and schedule. Choose a studio that is convenient for you to get to, whether it’s close to your home or workplace. Also, take a look at the class schedule to make sure there are classes offered at times that work for your schedule. This will make it easier for you to stick to a regular yoga practice.

Look for Specialized Classes

If you’re interested in a specific type of yoga, such as tantra or restorative, make sure to look for studios that offer these specialized classes. These types of yoga can offer unique benefits and may be more suited to your needs and preferences. Don’t be afraid to try out different styles to find the one that resonates with you.

Consider the Atmosphere

The atmosphere of a yoga studio can greatly impact your experience. Some studios may have a more spiritual or meditative atmosphere, while others may focus more on physical fitness. Take a look at the studio’s website or social media pages to get a feel for their atmosphere. You can also visit the studio in person to see if it’s a comfortable and welcoming space for you.

By following these tips, you can find the perfect yoga studio near you to help you find peace and serenity in your daily life. Remember to listen to your body and choose a practice that feels right for you. Namaste.

Body Positive Works Yoga FAQ

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit root yuj, which means to yoke or to unite. Yoga is a holistic system that aims to unite the body, mind, and spirit, encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions.

Practiced for thousands of years in India and other parts of Asia, yoga is a set of physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation or contemplation that can be practiced alone or with a group.

In recent decades, yoga has become increasingly popular in the West, becoming a core component of physical fitness and health as well as mental well-being. It is widely regarded as a safe and healthy activity for people of all ages and abilities.

We have all the necessary equipment and props at the studio — yoga mats, blankets, blocks, bolsters, pillows, and straps.

Hatha Yoga is the most widely taught yoga practice in the United States, integrating physical poses (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), and deep relaxation.

Kundalini Yoga incorporates chanting, breathing exercises, meditation, and kriyas, which are specific sequences that pair timed holding of poses with breathwork, to move energy within the body.

Restorative Yoga uses props within the physical poses (asana) to relax the body and mind, de-stress, and calm the nervous system.

Yin Yoga is a practice wherein you hold poses for several minutes to unwind both the physical and emotional bodies.

Vinyasa Yoga is a form of yoga in which the poses flow and link to the next through continuous rhythmic breathing.
